A Resident of old Fort Harmony

William Prince was the fifth child of George Prince and Sarah Bowman. He was born October 23, 1848 in Elephant Hooks, Cape Colony, South Africa. In 1840 his parents were given a grant of land and money to go to Africa to help colonize the area. They lived there and farmed for fifteen years experiencing many hardships and life threatening experiences.

The missionaries found the family and they were converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. After a short time of fellowship with the Saints they exchanged all they had for passage to America. After two long years they arrived in Utah, eventually settling in the New Harmony area.1 William married Lousia Eveline Lee on January 23, 1868 in New Harmony. They were the parents of thirteen children. William died in Panguitch, Garfield, Utah on January 11, 1937.
